The launch of GSM in 2001 by Econet (now Airtel) liberated Nigerians from the old shackles forever.

D - The elephant in the room was: will it even work in Nigeria?
Those who were able to think outside the box immediately saw the opportunity; they separated the obstacles from the benefits and saw that the benefits outweighed the obstacles. These

How Did They Do It?
They applied the "Think-Outside-The-Box" principles by asking themselves a few questions:
1 - Is it working in another African country?
2 -Will people prefer to call their family in Lagos to say hello or would they rather travel by road to Lagos to say hello and head back to Kaduna the same day ?

3 -Will parents prefer to call their children in Abuja to see how they are doing or rather travel down , say hello and head back to Enugu the same day?

4 -Will a Nigerian living in England or USA prefer to call their brothers, sisters, parents on their cell phones or have them go to a neighbor's house, make them stay up all night to receive calls and be contented with the lack of privacy and embarrasement when neighbors tell them to speak quietly so as not to wake up an infant?
5 -Will a sick father prefer to be able to call his son on a business trip to Port-Harcourt to tell him he's not feeling well or rather jump on the road and travel to Port-Harcourt looking for is son to give him the news?

6-Will the son rather be able to call his dad on his cell phone, coordinate hospital visits and monitor his health or rather wait until he returns 2 weeks later?
7-Will a buyer of a product rather call a seller in Onitsha to enquire about a product or rather drive to ten  places around the country to find out which of the sellers has exactly what he needs?
There were thousands of reasons why the masses would love to have a cell phone. They may not have known it then,  but they did soon. The revolutionary thinkers concluded their findings and struck gold even before it was known to the masses.
A Much Bigger Phenomenon Is Right Here And It Is Called Mobile Payment

Mobile payment is not only going to revolutionalise how we do things, it will bring order to chaos, while building phenomenal wealth for those who can think outside the box now (Super Agents, Master Agents, Agents).
